| Multimedia
systems are being introduced into many new areas which up to now were serviced
by the print medium. The wide availability of the Internet and the World
Wide Web has provided a digital platform for publishing information globally
using all the different media types. The skills required to develop applications
using the new media are the same no matter what the final delivery platform
is: kiosk, CD-ROM or World Wide Web. This course is especially appropriate to graduates without a computer science background, because of the very important special skills they will bring to the multimedia area. For example, good Arts graduates have well-developed skills in written communication and in analytical thinking. Furthermore, graduates of specific disciplines will have useful specific skills; for instance, philosophy graduates have a grounding in aesthetics, art and history of art graduates have a good understanding of visual media, and psychology graduates appreciate the difficulties in human-computer interaction. The course will help students combine these existing skills with the technological knowledge needed to design and develop multimedia applications. In short this MSc is designed to add computing to their existing strengths. |
